A fun, quick intro to the basics of WordPress. If you are a beginner, wanting to try out WordPress for the first time, this is the workshop for you. We\u2019ll be working with the free, hosted accounts available through WordPress.com<\/a>. Some of the things we\u2019ll look at: changing your password, creating a static page, creating a blog post, adding photos to a post, simple changes to the look of your site, etc. You should leave this workshop with an idea of how WordPress works and info on how to get started. It\u2019s a great first step before taking an intensive in-person or online course.<\/p>\n

Participants are asked to fill in a quick sign-up form<\/a> before attending so that we can ensure there are enough TA\u2019s to help everyone. Everyone will also need to sign-up for a free wordpress.com account<\/a> before the workshop and bring a laptop; free Wifi will be provided.<\/p>\n

This workshop will run from 1 pm until 3 pm.<\/p>\n

Led by Shannon Smith of Caf\u00e9 Noir Design<\/a>, Kathryn Presner of Zoonini Web Services<\/a>, and Jeremy Clarke of Simian Uprising<\/a>, with assistance from Al Davis of Telus, and Christine Rondeau of Bluelime Media<\/a>.<\/p>\n

  7. Add a category to your post<\/li>\n
  8. Add tags to your post<\/li>\n
  9. Create a blog post that will appear in the future<\/li>\n
  10. Create a sticky blog post<\/li>\n
  11. Embed a YouTube video<\/li>\n
  12. Dealing with comments on your blog<\/li>\n
  13. Dealing with trackbacks on your blog<\/li>\n
  14. Using the QuickPress bookmarklet<\/li>\n
  15. Make a back-up of your site using the Export tool<\/li>\n
  16. Create an \u201cAbout Me\u201d widget<\/li>\n
  17. Modify the main menu<\/li>\n
  18. Choose a new theme<\/li>\n
