Terry created his first WP website in 2008 to promote a business and was immediately captivated by its ease of use. He attended his first WordCamp in 2010 and was motivated to take a 2 day WordPress training course.
He is deeply indebted to the “open source” movement and the contributions that make learning about WordPress available. Terry has been an active member of WordPress Meetups since January 2012.
Presentation: Use WordPress to become a Social Proprietor
I want to demonstrate the power of WordPress so that the audience will understand the various ways they can present their business story on the web. To go beyond the 5 minute install and choosing a theme, to understanding how to engage their audience and build an economical website.
What attracted you to WordPress in the first place?
It is so easy to use! The interface is very intuitive and it is possible to learn everything you need to know by searching for the answers to your questions on the internet.I am really drawn to the concept of open source material and how so many different people offer support for so many different facets of the WordPress platform.
What are you most looking forward to at WordCamp Toronto?
I know from my previous WordCamps that there will be many moments where I will say to myself “that’s a neat way to do that”, so I am looking forward to having an “aha moment” that stops me in my tracks!
Why did you decide to speak?
I have learned almost everything that I know about WordPress from other peoples’ generous and free contributions. When I saw an opportunity to give back something, on a subject that I am passionate about, I knew I had to make the effort to provide a quality presentation.
What is your favourite plugin or theme, and why?
I have to say TwentyTen as a theme because that is where I learned to use Child Themes. WordPress SEO by Yoast because it just works so beautifully!
