{"id":241445,"date":"2014-10-19T16:42:55","date_gmt":"2014-10-19T20:42:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/2014.toronto.wordcamp.org\/?post_type=wcb_speaker&#038;p=241445"},"modified":"2014-10-19T16:45:54","modified_gmt":"2014-10-19T20:45:54","slug":"david-colburn","status":"publish","type":"wcb_speaker","link":"https:\/\/toronto.wordcamp.org\/2014\/speaker\/david-colburn\/","title":{"rendered":"David Colburn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>David&#8217;s background in operations, agile production, and front-end development enables him to provide strong Scrum and Agile facilitation to a team.<\/p>\n<p>David&#8217;s career in digital products began while he was a production and product manager at the Financial Post and then at Canada NewsWire where his work focused on the publication of financial information products for the professional investor markets.<\/p>\n<p>More recently, he has focused on improving project results through the building of high-performance teams.<\/p>\n<h2>Speaker Session<\/h2>\n<p><a title=\"Intro to Agile Practices\" href=\"https:\/\/2014.toronto.wordcamp.org\/session\/intro-to-agile-practices\/\">Intro to Agile Practices<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/2014.toronto.wordcamp.org\/track\/agency\/\">Agency track<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The presentation intends to introduce participants to the <a href=\"http:\/\/agilemanifesto.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Agile Manifesto<\/a> and then through a hands-on team-based exercise demonstrate show these principles in action.<\/p>\n<h2>What do you want people to learn from your presentation?<\/h2>\n<p>I hope that participants will leave the session able to begin applying basic Agile methods to the development practices.<\/p>\n<h2>Why did you decide to speak?<\/h2>\n<p>Since returning to Toronto in 2013 I&#8217;ve had first-hand experience working with agile producing large-scale projects. Its practices can help any project team produce better work and achieve more for their efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Passing on Agile and Scrum concepts to other people seems the best way I can give back to the open-source community.<\/p>\n<h2>What attracted you to WordPress in the first place?<\/h2>\n<p>WordPress is a strong tool for the disintermediation of information.<\/p>\n<h2>What&#8217;s your favourite WordPress plugin or theme, andy why?<\/h2>\n<p>That changes over time, but these days I rely on <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/themes\/clean-yeti-basic\" target=\"_blank\">Clean Yeti Basic<\/a> as a starter theme.
