Dale Mugford

Dale Mugford has been designing and developing XHTML, CSS, Javascript and multimedia web projects since 1994. He loves web standards. New technologies. Coffee. He’s also fond of blowing considerable time on that last 20%. He Co-founded BraveNewCode Inc. in 2008 with Duane Storey and hasn’t looked back.

Why WordPress?

It’s easily the most extensible CMS and has a fantastic user community surrounding it which I’m proud to be a part of.

What are you most looking forward to at WordCamp Toronto?

Great speakers! Speaking myself will be a blast, but hearing the other great speakers and getting to meet them is what I love most.

Featured Speaker: Trevor Mills

Trevor Mills

Trevor Mills is the owner of Top Quark, a WordPress development shop specializing in plugins and apps for conferences and festivals. He is a creative and intuitive developer and an open-minded and eager mentor. He holds a degree in Nuclear Physics from the University of Toronto and recently relocated to Barrie with his family. He also plays bass in the Juno award winning band, Digging Roots.

Why WordPress?

Because it’s a joy to make it jump through hoops. There’s nothing that can’t be done with WordPress. The architecture is poetry and possibilities are endless.

What are you most looking forward to at WordCamp Toronto?

Speaking about building mobile apps within WordPress; meeting Dale from Brave New Code; seeing and meeting the Toronto area WordPress community; hanging out and watching Toronto establish itself as a Canadian WordPress centre, particularly in the area of plugin and app development. Go Canada!

Schedule Change: Ruth Maude replacing Dawn Comber in Beginner/End User track.

Dawn Comber was originally scheduled to present How to Write Great Copy for your Blog in our Beginner/End User track. We’ve had to make a last-minute change, however, because Dawn just won a trip to BlogWorld Expo in Los Angeles (which is happening on the same weekend as WordCamp Toronto).

Ruth Maude, and her presentation on SEO for bloggers, will take Dawn’s place on Saturday afternoon.

He’s contributed over 25 plugins to the WordPress community, works to optimize themes and develops WordPress websites for startups, national firms and trains small business owners on the power of blogging.

Why WordPress?

WordPress offers the most effective method possible for helping non-technical end users learn to manage their own website solutions. When I started using it, I was just looking to save myself some time developing an underpriced website but the client became the most engaged client I had because WordPress helped him take control of his own website.

Back in the day, Andrea had an online journal. It was flat files with hardcoded HTML. WordPress was and still is a miracle. Anyone can get up and running and publishing content in minutes.

What are you most looking forward to at WordCamp Toronto?

We are most looking forward to socializing with new friends and familiar faces, and also telling people about the super cool stuff you can do with multisite.

James McKenzie is a web developer, graphic designer, and information architect. He has specialized in WordPress template development for the past 2 years, with a strong focus on crafting custom WordPress admin screens for each project to best suit the information design of the site while also enhancing client usability. He has built and managed multi-user sites, membership sites, and brochure sites. You can see some of his work at jmkenz.com.

Why WordPress?

The abundance of themes and plugins for WordPress is what initially attracted me to the platform. Then I started falling in love with the interface, and finally found the underlying code to be quite elegant. I now build exclusively with WordPress.

What are you most looking forward to at WordCamp Toronto?

It will be great to meet others who are developing with WordPress. The online community surrounding the platform is incredible and it will be great to extend that to the offline space.

Ease of use and updating probably number one reason for both me and my clients. More of my clients are wanting to become part of their daily website presence and WP allows them to do that, and it takes a huge load off of my shoulders with updates.

Getting more information on how to better utilize WP and to meet new people of course. I met a great group of speakers when I spoke in Columbus, Ohio.
