Presentation: WordPress Accessibility: Spreading the word!
“I really want to reach out to those that understand accessibility, and have a desire to contribute, but have difficulty moving forward.
I want people to realize that supporting web accessibility is not just for developers that code accessible or write accessible patches, but that it can involve anyone and everyone.”
What unique perspective are you bringing to this talk?
“As a person born with a physical disability, I bring a real world perspective as to what accessibility is really about.”
What’s one really cool thing people will discover during your session?
“People (of any skill set) will be exposed to the various avenues and opportunities for supporting web accessibility. My audience will have a better understanding of how accessibility can positively impact those that need it and why everyone should get involved.”
Do you have a good WordPress related story, anecdote or memory?
“Last year, I had the pleasure of being on the organizing team, which was truly an amazing experience. We did a great job and had a ton of fun at the same time, not to mention the comradery that came with it. Most of the organizing meetings ended up at a bar or pub, but I guess all the good meetings do. I supposed beer and brotherhood built WordCamp 2014 (HAHA), which is something I’ll never forget!”
What are you most looking forward to at WordCamp Toronto?
“First and foremost, I love the networking, either with old or new faces, it’s really the people that make WordCamp’s special.
Secondly, I enjoy the public speaking, it feels really great having the opportunity to share my knowledge and life experiences with those that share the same passions as I do.”
