Élise Desaulniers rediscovered the pleasure of writing with WordPress and has been blogging (in French!) for more than 6 years. She is a founding partner at Desaulniers Simard, a boutique consulting firm based in Montréal, Québec, Canada. She has trained hundreds of people to use WordPress and has developed dozens of sites. She has been a speaker at all WordCamp Montréal conferences since 2012 and she thinks multilingual sites are to blame for her grey hair.
Alexandre built his first of many websites in 1998. His browser of choice was Netscape 2.02 and he really liked BBEdit. Since 2009, Alexandre Simard has been making a living as an independent WordPress developer. He has spoken at (almost) all WordCamp Montréal editions. In 2014, he founded Desaulniers Simard with Élise Desaulniers.
Presentation: Multilingual Content and WordPress
“It’s a recurring pain point in all our projects. We’ve been forced to become knowledgeable about it and we want to fast track you through our many experiments and mistakes.
If we had a dollar for each time someone asked us which plugin to use for a multilingual WordPress site, beer would be on us for everyone attending our talk. At this time, there’s no be-all end-all answer to the multilingual question.
In this talk, we will review the best practices involved in creating a multilingual site, then we will walk you through the benefits, drawbacks and pitfalls of current approaches to multilingual content with WordPress. Yes, we’ve (pretty much) tried them all. We hope that by the end of our talk, you’ll feel at ease if multilingual projects come your way.”
What unique perspective are you bringing to this talk?
Alexandre: “There’s two of us! English is our second language! Come make fun of our accents!”
What’s one really cool thing people will discover during your session?
Alexandre: “The best WordPress multilingual strategy may well be completely outside WordPress itself.”
Élise: “Master the best practices in multilingual sites conception.”
What are you most looking forward to at WordCamp Toronto?
Alexandre: “Meeting the local community. I’ve never been to a Toronto WordPress event.”
Élise: “Meeting the local community.”
