Featured Speaker: tracy apps

“Hi, my name is tracy (or some people call me tapps). I’m a graphic designer, front-end developer, photographer, drummer, crossfitter and a lifelong Milwaukean.

I started creating for the web in 1996, and started developing with WordPress before it was WordPress (my first blog was created with b2). I have been working independently for my own company, tracy apps design, for over 6 years now and I just love solving client puzzles of all sizes.

I’ve been doing custom WordPress sites for over 10 years and it has become my number one go-to tool for my client work. I’m a big fan of breaking things to see what cool things can come out of that. I also could probably deadlift you.”

Presentation: please design responsively

“I’ve been designing for the web for almost 20 years. In that 20 years, it feels like the internet has grown the equivalent of 200 years. Some people see this rapid change as overwhelming (which it is). I actually find it exciting and invigorating. We’ve only just scratched the surface of web design and development, and i think more designers should get excited about the possibilities instead of afraid of them.”

What unique perspective are you bringing to this talk?

“I’m not really your typical design / front-end developer. I like to break rules just to see what happens. I believe we should all have FUN with complex design puzzles. I’m allergic to jargon and buzz words. I talk with my hands a lot. So basically i’m like the comic relief. Try the veal.”

What’s one really cool thing people will discover during your session?

“If learning how to tackle responsive web design and creating successful designs on all internet computer-box-machines and gadgety devices isn’t enough, I also snuck in internet memes and cats. Because we all know that is really what the internet is all about, right?”

What are you most looking forward to at WordCamp Toronto?

“The community! My favorite thing about WordCamps is always the people. I always see the greatest things happen in discussions over lunch or in the “hallway sessions.””
