Featured Speaker: Mary Anne Shew

“After an IT career in large corporations, I founded Business Vitality LLC in 1999. Since then I’ve helped dozens of small businesses get better leads and more customers through web sites and Internet marketing. I also help my clients keep those customers and make more profit by improving how their companies operate. I finally jumped on the WordPress bandwagon in 2013. I live in Rochester NY and am a member of the Rochester and Buffalo WordPress Meetup groups.”

Presentation: Piecing Together the WordPress Puzzle

“With WP, I quickly learned the setup steps were very different than what I’d been used to in the HTML/CSS world. I’ve set up my own visual checklist to help me navigate Dashboard menus and settings efficiently to set up a WP site. I proposed this topic because I believe sharing what I learned will help WP beginners build sites better and faster and enjoy the process more too.”

What unique perspective are you bringing to this talk?

“I’ve been programming and working with computer technology personally and professionally since 1970. I’ve discovered one of my strengths is translating technology so it’s understandable and usable by people.

I’m also an organized person who thrives on checklists to plan and do my work. I’m a visual learner who likes maps and tables and other guides to absorb information quickly. It’s my passion to share so others have a shortened learning curve to get things done.

I bring my lifetime technical knowledge + organizing skills + teaching passion to the hundreds of classes and presentations I’ve offered–and to this particular talk on piecing the WordPress puzzle.”

What’s one really cool thing people will discover during your session?

“A *visual map* of the site setup path through Dashboard menus and settings.”

What are you most looking forward to at WordCamp Toronto?

“The immersion into WordPress for two whole days! Plus getting to know others in the WP community.”
